    Turn off the HRV and set the thermostat fan to auto. If the furnace fan is running, it indicates the thermostat is calling for A/C.
  • Breaker Panel
    Verify the A/C breaker (usually a double breaker labeled “A/C”) is turned on.
  • Water Leaks
    If water is leaking from the furnace, the unit may be frozen. Turn off the system for 24 hours to allow it to thaw.
  • Frozen Pipes or Ductwork
    If there’s visible ice, thaw the unit for 24–48 hours before booking a service call. Frozen units cannot be properly diagnosed.
  • Enercare Equipment
    If your system is rented from Enercare, contact them directly for service.

  • A/C Cover
    Make sure the outdoor cover is fully removed.
  • Disconnect Box
    Ensure the outdoor disconnect switch (a grey box with a plug or handle) is turned on.
  • Ice on Unit
    If there’s ice on the unit or pipes, allow 24–48 hours for thawing before requesting service.
  • Dirty or Clogged Fins
    If the fins are dirty, turn off power at the breaker panel, then gently rinse with a hose (never use a pressure washer).
  • Outdoor Temperature
    The outdoor temperature must be above 18°C for accurate diagnostics.
